Entertaiment is a broad term that varies in scale and purpose: a single person who enjoys a private entertainment; a couple attending a dinner-party or wedding, or an audience at a theater or concert; a festival or celebration; a symphony or opera for thousands; and even a global news event. Entertainment evolves to reflect the societal needs of the time, and often takes on the form of art, sports or other leisure activities. Yet, for some people, what appears as entertainment can also provide insight or intellectual growth.
Using a methodology that integrates literature reviews and interviews with key informants, this study produced new definitions for the category of entertaiment, anchored in nocoes de produto, experiencia, cultura e comunicaço. These definitions provide a basis for further academic discussion in the area of entertaiment.
