The Daily News

The Daily News is a tabloid newspaper published in New York City. Founded in 1919, it is one of the largest circulated metropolitan daily newspapers in the United States. The newspaper primarily covers city news, but also includes celebrity gossip and classified ads. The paper is often critical of political and social issues. In addition, the newspaper contains sports coverage and opinion pieces.

During the 1920s, the Daily News found abundant subject matter in politics and society. Like other popular dailies, the paper emphasized political wrongdoing such as the Teapot Dome scandal and social intrigue such as the romance between Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII that led to the latter’s abdication. It also devoted considerable attention to photography; the newspaper was an early user of the AP wirephoto service in the 1930s and built up a large staff of photographers. The paper was also an early adopter of color printing.

Today, the Daily News is owned by Tronc, a Chicago-based media company. Its circulation has been declining in recent years, but it still has a strong presence in the New York metropolitan area. In July 2017, the newspaper announced that it was launching an online edition. The digital version is designed to appeal to a younger, more tech-savvy audience.

While the online edition of the Daily News has been a success, the print version continues to struggle. The newspaper has been losing subscribers at a fast pace and was in bankruptcy protection as of January 2019. In September, it emerged from bankruptcy and was sold to Tronc for $1.

Amid the continuing struggles of print journalism, many publishers are looking for ways to improve their image and their bottom line. For some, this means cutting costs while improving quality. For the Daily News, this meant partnering with ECO3 to upgrade their prepress and press workflows.

By implementing SPIR@L, ECO3’s advanced screening technology, the Daily News was able to eliminate image slurring and deliver stunning results on the press. The results were so impressive that the newspaper extended its partnership with ECO3 for an additional year.

Each Daily News article is accompanied by comprehension and critical thinking questions that teachers can use to help students understand the story and its context. Additionally, each article has “Background” and “Resources” sections that provide more information on the topic.

In the digital age, many people prefer to get their news in a format that is easy to consume on their mobile devices. The Daily News offers an extensive selection of content that is available online and on their mobile apps. Its online versions are tailored to the time-challenged rush hour reader who wants to stay informed, but doesn’t want to spend a lot of time reading. They have a variety of subscription options that allow readers to access the latest news and analysis at any time, anywhere.
